National Arena Swimming League – West Round 3 @ Bath

On the 10th December Bodmin Dragons took part in Round 3 of Division 1 of the National Arena Swimming League – West at Bath against strong teams from Bristol Henleaze, Bristol Central, Clevedon and Devonport. Bodmin Dragons secured a superb result after an exciting finish, being edged into second place by Bristol Henleaze on the final event

Caitlyn Clement, Jodie Greenwood, Eleanor Holden and Lani House swam in the girls 11 and unders; Rebecca Anderson, Robyn Edwards and Charlie Randall swam in the girls 13 and unders; Emily Harbisher, Katie Randall and Millie Sander swam in the girls 15 and unders, and Natalie Harbisher and Holly Yeo swam in the girls open.

Drew Burnard, Eddie Glover, James Greenwood, Connor Sleeman and Daniel Watkins swam in the boys 11 and unders; Owen Guy, Angus Jarvis, Daniel Puckey, Isaac Solomon, George Spencer and Joseph Tibbetts swam in the boys 13 and unders; Hugh Harvey, Oliver Jarvis and Edward White swam in the boys 15 and unders; Calum Jarvis, Henry Jarvis, Adam Sandercock, Joseph Schenk, Josh Solomon and Scott Temple swam in the boys open.
After 10 events, the first set of relays, Bodmin Dragons were down in 4th place; although in the Boys Open Medley Relay the team of Calum Jarvis, Josh Solomon, Henry Jarvis and Adam Sandercock came home in 1st place. 

After 18 events Bodmin Dragons had turned it around and were in 2nd place thanks to some excellent individual performances; with 1st place for Connor Sleeman in the 50m Backstroke, 1st place for Oliver Jarvis in the 100m Backstroke and 1st place for Calum Jarvis in the 100m Butterfly. 

After 26 events Bodmin Dragons had moved up into 1st place after some outstanding individual performances; with 1st place for Rebecca Anderson in the 50m Backstroke, 1st place for Daniel Puckey in the 50m Backstroke, 1st place for Millie Sander in the 100m Butterfly, 1st place for Rebecca Anderson in the 100m Backstroke and 1st place for Calum Jarvis in the 100m Backstroke, a swim described on pool-side as “awesome”. 

After 34 events Bodmin Dragons were still in 1st place, but only by a point; there was a 1st place for Joseph Tibbetts in the 50m Butterfly. 

After 42 events Bodmin Dragons were hanging on in 1st place by 3 points after some determined individual performances; with 1st place for James Greenwood in the 50m Freestyle, 1st place for Rebecca Anderson in the 50m Freestyle and 1st place for Joseph Tibbetts in the 50m Freestyle. Bodmin Dragons went into the second set of relays with a lead of just 3 points, but despite a 1st place in the Freestyle Relay for the team of Isaac Solomon, George Spencer, Angus Jarvis and Owen Guy, and a 1st place in the Medley Relay for the team of Rebecca Anderson, Emily Harbisher, Katie Randall and Millie Sander, Bodmin Dragons were edged out by Bristol Henleaze who finished on 167 points to Bodmin Dragons’ 163. It was an exciting finish, with the results of the last 2 events going in favour of Bristol Henleaze. 

Head Coach, Simon Darbourne, was very pleased with his team’s performance, which should give Bodmin Dragons its highest ever finishing position in Division 1 of the Arena League.
